Schools missing out on generous funding to help with strategic planning and Academy conversion

The trend for secondary schools to convert to academy status is gaining pace and spreading to all parts of the country.

What's more, different models of schools are being developed with the creation of free schools and now studio schools.

More and more primary schools are also converting to academy status.

Importantly, many schools that have not yet considered conversion are still unaware that Government funding of £25,000 is available to cover the costs of a school simply considering whether to convert. This funding can be used generally at the discretion of the Board of Governors towards whatever costs are incurred in the review process.

What makes this funding even more attractive is that it does not have to be repaid; even if the school decides not to convert or if some of the funding remains unspent!

Now is the time for schools to consider conversion to academy status and to take advantage of this generous funding. It is always a valuable exercise in any organisation to take a step back and look at the strategic options available for future development.
