Mitchell Charlesworth Chairman Clive Plummer said the merger reflected the firm's ambition and commitment to offer the complete finance solution to its core market and client base of small to medium sized firms and business owners.

"This is a hugely exciting new venture which will thrust Mitchell Charlesworth further into the corporate finance market," he said. "Brian and the Vanguard team are bringing a wealth of contacts and a huge amount of experience and expertise to Mitchell Charlesworth and we are already working on a number of exciting deals together.

The breadth and depth of Mitchell Charlesworth's services for the SME market is now even more formidable and comprehensive. We offer the highest calibre of expertise across disciplines of accountancy, corporate finance and insurance as well as our newly strengthened wealth management division."

MC Vanguard Corporate Finance partner Brian McCann said the new venture is 'a fusion' of expertise.

"This merger is about bringing talent, skills, contacts and experience together to create one of the best  corporate finance firms in the region," he said. "With Mitchell Charlesworth's depth of experience in key areas such as tax and due diligence we can market our services more widely and extensively. Our core offering will remain acquisition search, exit planning and deal management services. However, we are confident that we can now reach a wider range of businesses, just at the time when we believe the market for mid-sized transactions in the North West is showing signs of a strong recovery.

We built Vanguard by working with ambitious business owners who want to accelerate their growth through acquisition and with other hard working clients looking for help to maximise the value of the businesses they have   spent a lifetime building. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue this strategy from within one of the region's strongest accounting and advisory firms"

Vanguard has operated since 2007 from Liverpool Science Park, specialising in acquisition and disposal transactions, as well as fundraising for SME's. The team has completed a regular stream of transactions throughout the North West, particularly for clients in the technology, telecoms and manufacturing sectors. Vanguard's founder Brian McCann has over 20 year's advisory experience having started his career with KPMG. He is also a board member with Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Chester Swimming Association which operate the City Baths.
