Mitchell Charlesworth Drives Payroll Client Wins Past 600

Mitchell Charlesworth is experiencing a surge in demand for payroll services after client wins for the department rose past 600.

Mitchell Charlesworth Payroll Director Ken Davies said recent deals had been secured with Liverpool based Optimum Group which operates 16 Costa stores across Merseyside, and Sale based Hollowood Chemist Group which operates five pharmacies.

A further deal has been signed with Widnes based MG Employment, providers of staff solutions to local authorities and businesses. The firm is also providing services for Birkenhead seabed mapping and coastal survey firm Osiris Projects. It takes the total number of retained payroll clients to circa 640.

"There has been considerable growth in the payroll division over the last six months," said Mr Davies. "This has seen three new members of staff brought into the team. We have seen an increased demand for payroll services across all sectors. This is because of our fast turnaround times and the detailed level of our support. Our aim is to provide a bespoke service for each individual client to create payroll systems which operate in the most efficient and cost effective way. We place great value in getting to know our client's businesses so we can put mechanisms in place which are best suited to their business model.

"Payroll is becoming an increasingly complex and onerous task which requires specialist knowledge and expertise. It is often a distraction to managers and business owners.

We make sure our clients fully understand the processes and how best to act upon them. Our services crucially help to free up time which can be invested elsewhere in the business. Many smaller accountants in the North West do not offer a payroll service. One of Mitchell Charlesworth's core aims is to offer the complete accountancy package."

Mr Davies said the payroll division provides support across a broad number of areas including tax, national insurance, pensions, maternity and paternity pay and student loans. Others include PAYE, leavers' payments, holiday payment calculations, absence payments, dividends, rebates and minimum wage calculations.

The BACS accredited payroll service is also in the process of rolling out a series of seminars across the North West warning of major changes to payroll.

"We have just started a fresh campaign of specialist seminars to communicate to regional businesses the looming changes to payroll law," said Mr Davies. "Real Time Information (RTI) is being introduced by HMRC in April 2013 to improve the operation of PAYE. But there are penalty systems in place for non-compliance opening businesses up to large fines. It is crucial that any organisation which is not confident it has a firm grasp of payroll procedures gets up to speed now."
