Mole Group has beaten off stiff competition from other local businesses to be crowned the winner of the Merseyside Innovation Awards 2012.

Mole Group was chosen due to its innovative new 'CombiSave' device which is aimed at speeding up hot water delivery and reducing bills in domestic properties. The other two finalists were ChargePoint Technology and Trak-Rap.

As well as receiving critical acclaim and publicity, the winning company will now receive a prize package of £14,000 which consists of a £10,000 cash prize and an additional £4,000 of legal, business, accounting or design consultancy.

This year was the 17th Merseyside Innovation Awards and the final took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool. The awards were open to companies or individuals with fewer than 50 employees and were orginally established to recognise and reward the use of innovation to boost growth and profitability.

The head of the judging panel, the BBC's Andy Gill said: "This is a simple and inventive idea that has enormous potential to reach a huge amount of people."

It has been estimated that over 500 businesses have now taken part in the Merseyside Innovation Awards which were founded and are still organised and sponsored by MC Vanguard Corporate Finance.

Mitchell Charlesworth Partner and Merseyside Innovation Awards' chairman Brian McCann said: "We have had the highest quality of entries for many years. All three of our finalists are businesses where innovation is core to what they do and I am sure that all three will go on to make a significant contribution to business growth on Merseyside."
