Warning All Electricians - You now have less than one week to pay any undisclosed tax

Mitchell Charlesworth's Tax experts are reminding electricians that they have less than one week to pay any undisclosed tax that may be owed under an existing HMRC campaign called the 'Electricians Tax Safe Plan'.

The deadline for electricians to pay the tax they owe is 14 August 2012.

Electricians

If you are an electrician and have any questions with regards to your tax obligations, please contact one of our tax experts in your nearest local office for expert guidance. Alternatively, complete a quick enquiry form and we will get back to you.

Under this HMRC campaign (which is specifically targeted at anyone who installs, maintains and tests electrical systems, equipment and appliances) electricians can pay any tax and interest they owe and will only receive penalties of 10%. Under normal circumstances, the taxman can charge penalties up to 100% of the tax owed and in the worst cases, a criminal investigation can be launched

How do electricians let HMRC know that they intend to make a tax disclosure? Firstly, you could go online and complete a form at www.hmrc.gov.uk/campaigns/notify.htm

This is the second part of an HMRC campaign specifically targeting tradespeople. The first of these schemes targeted plumbers and heating engineers. For those that do not come forward, HMRC is taking a tough stance. As a result of this first campaign targeting tradespeople, there are now 23 criminal cases under way; two plumbers have been jailed and another received a suspended prison sentence.
