Adam McGowan and Mike Buxton have combined experience of close to 30 years with Mitchell Charlesworth.

Mr McGowan joined Mitchell Charlesworth in 1998 and progressed within the audit and accounts department before qualifying as a chartered accountant in 2005.

Since then, he has gained experience in general practice assisting SMEs in a variety of sectors, gaining in depth understanding of the needs of family and owner-managed businesses.

Following his appointment as an audit manager in 2010, Mr McGowan has developed a specialism in corporate finance and forensic services. He continues to advise on a variety of transactions and assist with fundraising alongside managing a wide ranging portfolio of clients.

Mr Buxton started at Mitchell Charlesworth in 1999 as a trainee and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2005. Since promotion to manager in 2010, his clients range from family businesses to large groups.

He was later tasked with leading the practice's legal services department on compliance and advisory matters, with direct responsibility for the solicitors’ portfolio in the Chester and Liverpool offices.

Mitchell Charlesworth chairman Clive Plummer said the pair of promotions was testimony to the firm's forward thinking attitude when it comes to developing its talent from within.

"These promotions are thoroughly deserved for both Adam and Mike and show the breadth of skills we have and the opportunities we can offer staff," he said. "Their ongoing commitment to Mitchell Charlesworth is great news for the firm and our clients who will continue to benefit from their skills, advice and first-class service."

Mr McGowan said: "I will aim to capitalise on my experience and contacts and develop our compliance and specialist services, such that we remain lead advisor for professional services to SMEs. I hope my appointment as an Associate is another step on the path to admission as a partner."

Mr Buxton said: "My hopes for the future are to progress onto partner level within the firm. I would like to continue building my own client portfolio and use my expertise in the legal field to increase the number of solicitors and legal practices which Mitchell Charlesworth act for."
