The "It's Liverpool in China" breakfast event, organised by economic development agency Liverpool Vision took place on Tuesday 16 April at Malmaison Hotel, Liverpool.

Among other subjects, Steven talked about his personal experience of working with Chinese businesses. Steven advised that people wanting to do business with China should avoid potentially sensitive political subjects, such as China's relationship with Japan, and should ensure that they are well-dressed.

In relation to British firms aiming to be successful in the Chinese market, Steven suggested that firms should take the time and effort to make promotional materials or websites bilingual, so that anyone can read them properly. As an example, Steven suggested that if you simply get your name and title translated into Chinese on your business cards, this will go a long way to foster good relations.
