Insolvency Single Complaints Gateway Launched

A single gateway for complaints against Insolvency Practitioners which simplifies the current system has been brought into effect from 5th July 2013.

The move, announced by the Business minister Jo Swinson, forms part of the larger Government "Red Tape Challenge" and now means that new complaints relating to work carried out by Insolvency Practitioners, should now be handled more speedily but also that the process should be far simpler from the point of view of the complainant.

Jeremy Oddie (pictured right), Corporate Recovery & Insolvency partner and North West Regional Chair of R3 (the Association of Business Recovery Professionals) says "This overhaul of the existing complaints system is long overdue. The revised approach, with all new complaints initially being directed through a common gateway operated by the Insolvency Service is a positive step forward. Until now complaints have been dealt with initially by the individual Insolvency Practitioners licensing Body of which there are currently six separate organisations.

Complainants frequently found the old system of complaint handling both confusing and frustrating. The new approach is designed to reduce handling times by simplification of the process whilst adding transparency to the overall process.

In the current economic climate, complainants with valid concerns over the behaviour of an appointed Insolvency Practitioner have every right to want to see such activity brought into the open especially when such activity involves situations where Insolvency has occurred and monies have been lost. Insolvency Practitioners should welcome the changes as the new process will mean that they too will benefit from the speeding up of the system."
