BAC Mono Supercar named MIA Monthly Winner

The BAC Mono, a single seat sports car with a £110,000 price tag, has earned Speke-based Briggs Automotive the title of April winner of the Merseyside Innovation Awards (MIA), sponsored and organised by MC Vanguard Corporate Finance.

BAC Mono Car MIA Monthly Winner

Car maker Briggs Automotive Company moved to Speke last year and hopes to produce 100 vehicles a year by 2015. The business is run by brothers Neill and Ian Briggs who first unveiled the car in 2011. It has a top speed of 170mph and can go from 0 to 60mph in 2.8 seconds.

Neill Briggs said: "Ian and I grew up in Liverpool so it is a source of immense pride that our creation has been chosen as a top Merseyside innovation.

"We both embarked on this project after working in the car industry and racing in our spare time and we wanted to create something which looked to the future of car design. The BAC Mono looks equally at home on the road as the racetrack.

"It always gets an incredible reception. Male or female, old or young, when people see it the first thing they do is take out their mobile phones and take a picture of it.

"But then when people, including journalists, drive the car they always come out thinking they are a better driver than when they got in. That is thanks to the innovative design which means the car is very forgiving when you push it."

Since being launched, the BAC Mono has been named Car of the Year by Top Gear's The Stig, featured at Liverpool's stand at MIPIM and is to star in forthcoming racing game Driveclub on the PS4.

Ian McGee, MIA committee member and relationship manager for NatWest Commercial Banking, presented BAC with the award.

He said: "The team at BAC has created a vision of the future. The BAC Mono is advanced both technologically and in terms of design. It breaks new ground in the world of car design and development and it is very much a home-grown project.

"It is for these reasons that the BAC Mono is a deserving winner of this award."

An MIA winner is selected each month and at the end of the entry period the applicants are whittled down to three finalists which will be invited to give a presentation to the judges at the final talking place at the Crowne Plaza, Liverpool in July.

The winner will receive a prize of £10,000 in cash while the runners-up can win specialist business support worth up to £2,000.
