The Trussell Trust works to empower local communities to combat poverty and exclusion in the UK. The Trust’s fast-growing UK foodbank network feeds hundreds of thousands of people in crisis in the UK and its Community Enterprises provide vital funds as well as volunteering opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities.

The donation came from profits raised by the conference and will go towards the Trust’s foodbank projects in the Merseyside area.

Mitchell Charlesworth Managing Partner and social housing specialist Paul Wainwright said “One of the themes of last year’s conference was welfare reform and the social and financial impact on tenants, and so we’re delighted that as well as having highlighted the excellent work of this valuable charity, we have also been able to demonstrably assist local families in need. We look forward to the continuation of this valuable annual event which as well as serving to address issues impacting the sector, also helps to shine the spotlight on invaluable charities such as The Trussell Trust and their excellent work in our region."

Alistair Fletcher, Head of Housing & Regeneration at Brabners added: “We are delighted to support The Trussell Trust and the valuable services it provides to local people in need. Local foodbanks provide a vital safety net for some of the most vulnerable people in our society and it is crucial that we support their work.”

Lynda Battarbee, North West Regional Development Officer of The Trussell Trust said: “We would like to thank the North West Housing Conference for its generous gift. The kind support by local people of foodbanks is heart-warming, both through financial gifts such as this today and also through the hundreds of hours of volunteer time given by local people to run the foodbank projects.”

The North West Housing Conference was held towards the end of 2013 at Liverpool BT Convention Centre and attracted over 250 delegates from across the UK to hear from a range of experts who examined the economic realities facing the sector and considered the impact of spending cuts. The keynote speakers were Nick Atkin, Chief Executive of Halton Housing Trust, Councillor Ann O’Byrne, Assistant Mayor and Cabinet member for Housing, Liverpool City Council and Paul Beardmore, Director of Housing at Manchester City Council. The event was chaired by Rob Warm, Head of External Affairs and Member Relations at the National Housing Federation.

Social housing specialists also presented a series of workshops, offering practical advice on a range of topics specific to the sector including housing management, finance, development issues, the European Funding Programme, wellbeing and welfare reform.

Mitchell Charlesworth and Brabners hosted the conference with financial and tactical support from a project group made up of Liverpool Mutual Homes, Plus Dane Group, Symphony Housing Group, The Regenda Group and Your Housing Group – and partners Maxmedia and Procure Plus.

The twelfth North West Housing Conference will take place at Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre on Friday 14 November 2014.  For details of  exhibitor or sponsorship opportunities please contact Cara Bartlett at Mitchell Charlesworth by calling 0151 255 2300 or send an email.
