Mitchell Charlesworth together with Barclays Bank invite you to attend their Digital Planning and Cyber Security seminar at Widnes Vikings’ ground, the Halton Stadium. Guests will also be treated to interviews with Widnes Vikings' co-captains, Chris Houston and Joe Mellor.

The seminar is in response to the significant and growing threat of cyber attacks on businesses and individuals and businesses alike, and is aimed at those that are concerned with online security. It will also look at how business owners can get ahead of the curve and prepare for the government’s digital taxation project, Making Tax Digital, which will require many companies to move their tax accounting online, with quarterly reports replacing the traditional annual tax return.

Speakers

Making Tax Digital & Accounting in the Cloud

Lorraine Whittaker, partner of Mitchell Charlesworth will talk about how to prepare for the digital accounting transformation and:

  • The concept of cloud based accounting
  • The challenges and opportunities that Making Tax Digital presents
  • Digital software compatible with Making Tax Digital and the steps you need to take to prepare
  • Timetables for roll out

Cyber Security

Katie O'Callaghan, Digital Manager at Barclays will be speaking about the issues surrounding cyber security, including common types of scams and identifying the various tactics that fraudsters deploy.

#YourTownYourTeam

Richard Munson, commercial and community director at Widnes Vikings will discuss the Vikings' community initiative, #YourTownYourTeam, as well as conducting player interviews with the Vikings' captains.

Guests will also have the opportunity to network after the presentations over drinks.

Speaker Profiles

Lorraine Whittaker - Mitchell Charlesworth
Lorraine has over 25 years experience in advising small businesses and developing growth strategies, recognising their special requirements for both tax planning and general management. She also specialises in issues affecting clients involved in the sports and entertainment industry.

Lorraine joined Mitchell Charlesworth in 1987 and became partner in 2006. She is an affiliated member of the ICAEW special interest group for Entertainment and Media. In her free time Lorraine is an avid Everton fan and attends all home and away matches.

Richard Munson - Commercial and Community Director, Widnes Vikings
Richard has over a decade of experience in the sport sector having been Community Director at Hull FC prior to joining Widnes Vikings in the same role in April 2015. Having taken on Commercial responsibilities in June of this year, Richard will be speaking about the role businesses play in enabling the Vikings to reach their goals both on the pitch in Super League and in the community.

Chris Houston - Widnes Vikings
Born in Narooma, New South Wales, back rower Chris Houston made his senior debut in 2007 with St George Illawara against North Queensland at the age of 22. After one season and 16 appearances for the Dragons the versatile forward linked up with Newcastle Knights where he made 160 appearances and scored 27 tries, in addition to becoming a New South Wales Country representative in 2011. Chris joined the Vikings in 2016, and recently passed the 50th appearance mark for the Club during the 2017 season, in which he was co-captain.

Joe Mellor - Widnes Vikings
Former Latchford Albion youth player Joe built his reputation at Academy and Reserve levels before being promoted to Wigan’s senior squad for the 2010 season. Making his Super League debut while on loan with Harlequins in 2011, he finally gained a place in the Warriors’ ‘17’ as an unused substitute against Huddersfield on his return north. Following a successful Dual-Registration spell with the Vikings in 2011, Joe scored 2 tries in 3 senior appearances for Wigan in 2012 before returning to Widnes on loan, playing a key role in the Vikings' late-season revival on their return to Super League. A permanent deal for the halfback from 2013 saw Joe became a mainstay in the Widnes side since, becoming a Co-Captain of the side in the 2017 season.
