Specialists tackle challenges facing housing sector at Liverpool seminar
Date: 1 December 2009
SOME of the region’s top industry experts tackled the wide-ranging challenges currently facing housing associations at a seminar staged in Liverpool.

More than 70 delegates from local authorities and housing associations from across the region attended the seminar, Housing in Challenging Times, held at the LACE Conference Centre in Sefton Park.
The keynote speaker, Stephanie Fleck, from the Tenant Services Authority, talked about regulation and how it will work in practice, while Eric Armitage, the former deputy chair of the Housing Corporation and board member of LHT, chaired the event.
North West Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, Mitchell Charlesworth, and North West law firm, Brabners Chaffe Street, jointly staged the seminar, which covered a variety of issues, including the increasing demand but lack of supply of accommodation.
Paul Wainwright, a partner at Mitchell Charlesworth, which is nationally recognised for its work with housing associations, said: “The Housing in Challenging Times seminar was a great success with a high number of delegates and some very informative speakers.
“Unfortunately, there is no escaping the fact that there are some tough challenges facing the social housing sector today. However, the seminar provided some expert insight and guidance which should help unravel some of the many difficulties that currently exist and how to overcome them. Events like this are essential for those working in the North West housing sector.”
During the seminar social housing specialists from Mitchell Charlesworth and Brabners Chaffe Street, along with several sector experts presented a series of workshops, covering topics such as anti-social behaviour, tax and legal issues.
Plans are already underway to stage another North West housing sector seminar next year at the BT Convention Centre at Liverpool Echo Arena on Friday, November 5, 2010.
