Dave Fanning, from Mossley Hill, Liverpool, won the 2008/2009 league – and £200 worth of vouchers – after scoring 615 points with his team called ‘No Money No Buy’, named after Everton’s lack of funds to buy new players!
The Everton season ticket holder and retired fireman competed against 92 other teams in the competition, which also saw the best manager every month receive a Premiership shirt of their choice.
Dave, who is the owner and founder of fire risk assessment business Mersey Fire and Safety Ltd, said: “I’ve played fantasy football leagues over the years, mainly in national newspapers, but I have never done very well before. So it was a big shock to win this one.
“I think it’s a great idea for Mitchell Charlesworth to run the fantasy football league for its clients and staff – I just hope David Moyes and the boys do as well as me at the end of this season!”
Dave has also written and published a series of books, with a central character called Phil the Fire Engine, aimed at teaching young people the dangers of fire.
Mitchell Charlesworth partner, Paul Wainwright, added: “Once again our annual fantasy football competition has been a great success. Dave played the game extremely well to win the league and finished eight points clear of his nearest rival, a result any Premiership manager would be proud of!”
