Meet Manchester's new marathon man!
Date: 19 February 2007
A SUPER-fit semi-senior accountant from the Manchester office of Mitchell Charlesworth is in the running to become a real-life marathon man.
Darryl McClean is aiming to raise vital funds for two good causes after signing up for two of the world’s top marathons – as well as a regional triathlon.
The 25-year-old will run the London Marathon on April 26 in aid of Spinal Research, after his friend suffered a serious neck injury while on holiday in Goa.
He is also planning to compete in the New York Marathon on November 26 to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, on behalf of his grandfather who passed away last year.
And on top of a grueling training session which sees him visit the gym every day, run 30 miles and swim for four hours every week – he is also taking part in the Salford Triathlon in July. That event will see him swim 750m, cycle 20k and run 10k.
Darryl, from Shaw in Oldham, said: “I completed the London Marathon in four hours and seven minutes last year and it was a brilliant day with a great atmosphere. However, when I crossed the finishing line I just knew I was going to take part in it again, so I am really looking forward to taking part in all three events this year.
“My only aim now is to beat my time from last year whilst also raising as much money as possible for these causes which mean a lot to me.”
Mitchell Charlesworth is sponsoring Darryl along with his colleagues at the firm’s Brazennose Street offices.
Paul Booth, partner, added: “Mitchell Charlesworth has a long history of supporting charities and it is typical of our employees to give up their free time to support these worthy causes. Everyone at the firm is proud of Darryl and we wish him the best of luck in all his fundraising endeavours.”
