Accountants complete taxing Three Peaks Challenge for charity

Date: 20 September 2006

A TEAM of Liverpool accountants have scaled the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, respectively, in just over 24 hours.

Paul Wainwright, partner at Mitchell Charlesworth Chartered Accountants, led a team which took on the renowned annual Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District, and Snowdon in North Wales. The team completed the mountainous task in an impressive time of 27 hours and 28 minutes.

Over £1,000 was raised for the First Great Sutton Scout Group of Ellesmere Port.

The climbing team included Corinne Wood, office manager at Mitchell Charlesworth, her husband Stuart Wood, Norman Howell, the financial director at the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel in Chester and a former manager with Mitchell Charlesworth, and his son Joshua.

Janice Wainwright and Karen Howell, the wives of Paul and Norman, respectively, drove the support vehicle which was sponsored by Chester based German sports car specialist, Autohaus.

Paul Wainwright said: “This was one of the greatest challenges and experiences of our lives. The weather was torrid and at times it was very intimidating but we showed heart and character to complete the challenge. A huge thank you goes to the team, our sponsors and Autohaus of Chester for providing the vehicle.”
