Mitchell Charlesworth Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, which is based on Temple Street, Liverpool, were joint sponsors of the event at the BT Convention Centre in the city, which was attended by more than 120 delegates.
The conference was also sponsored by Bremners Solicitors (now Brabners Chaffe Street), Arena Housing, General Systems, Liverpool Housing Trust and The Riverside Group. Mitchell Charlesworth and Brabners Chaffe Street are staging another housing seminar at the Lace Convention Centre, Sefton Park, Liverpool, on Friday, November 20, this year. However, plans are in motion to return to the BT Convention Centre on Friday, November 5, 2010.
The £6,013.38 donated to The Whitechapel Centre, based on Langsdale Street, Everton, will be used to fund hot food, clothing, washing facilities and education programmes.
Harry Winsor, from Mitchell Charlesworth’s specialist housing association team, said: “Mitchell Charlesworth has worked with the voluntary housing movement for many years and we are well aware of the issues faced by some of society’s most vulnerable people, who often find themselves living on the streets.
“Homelessness is not a lifestyle choice. There are often many complex and varied reasons why people rough sleep. The Whitechapel Centre helps more than 3,000 homeless people in Liverpool every year and hopefully this donation will go some way to help those who have become homeless, or are inadequately housed, change their situation.”
The Whitechapel Centre was set up in 1975 to help the growing number of homeless people around inner city Liverpool. Today, the centre has more than 60 staff and it runs day centre services, a breakfast bar, resettlement initiatives, supported housing services, and provides education and training.
David Carter, chief executive of The Whitechapel Centre, added: “At Whitechapel we believe there are answers to the factors that can lead to homelessness. We work in partnership with other agencies to deliver long-term solutions to homelessness through the many programmes we offer. However, we simply couldn’t provide these vital services without the generous support and kind donations from organisations such as this one from the sponsors of the Northwest Housing Conference.”
