2018 MIA finalists contest for chance to win £10,000 cash prize

Three innovative firms, who between them are seeking to streamline supply change management, enable a smoother service for disabled travellers, and protect us from microbial contamination, will each pitch for the chance to win this year’s Merseyside Innovation Awards.

Oblige Global, an innovative software based service which uses smart technology solutions to remove barriers faced by disabled people when travelling, Blinx Solutions, an Intuitive app which unifies and correlates companies’ data on one highly visual platform and 5D Health Protection Group, leading specialists in biofilm science, will each go head-to-head for a top prize of £10,000 cash and a further £2,000 worth of professional business support to help with the winner’s business growth.

The Awards final will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool, and will see each finalist pitching to a judging panel of leading authorities in technology, media and innovation.

Based in Daresbury, Cheshire, technology specialists, Blinx Solutions, have first hand experience of IT and metric systems, which, combined with their understanding of what customers need, have created a platform which merges all necessary data into one metric. Working closely with their clients, they have been able to define and optimise the most efficient way in which to collect and hold data.

Formed by a group of like-minded entrepreneurs, Oblige Global located in Liverpool, aims to transform society and the lives of disabled people through innovation and smart technology, allowing companies and clients to connect and share experiences in order to make small changes with big impacts.

Established in 2015, 5D Health Protection Group, based in Liverpool, formed in order to address a major global unmet customer and medical need in the area of biofilm testing. With a focus on designing and developing anti-biofilm technologies to counteract the serious impact they cause globally to human health, 5D have gone from strength to strength and are now recognised as global leaders in their field.

The three finalists were shortlisted from over 45 applicants who each submitted their innovations to the Awards panel with their reasons as to why they should be considered Merseyside’s top innovator.

Brian McCann, Merseyside Innovation Awards founder and partner of Mitchell Charlesworth Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors, said:

Each year the standard of entries get higher and higher, making selecting just three finalists a real challenge.

“From pioneers in biofilm science to change makers in smart technology, the three finalists truly reflect the diversity of innovation happening in our region.

“I’d like to thank all those who have entered the competition this year, and congratulate each and every one on their commendable efforts in inspiring change and innovation. I’d like to wish the three finalists the best of luck for the competition”.

Alongside the main £10,000 cash prize, the MIA will also award their ‘Prestige’ prize, which recognises innovation in businesses between £1m and £25m turnover, the winner of which will be announced on the night.
