Liverpool’s multi award-winning contract research organisation and centre of excellence in biofilm and microbiology testing, 5D Health Protection Group, has won this year’s highly contested Merseyside Innovation Awards (MIA).
Since 1996 the MIA have recognised and rewarded companies and individuals in Merseyside who use creativity to fuel growth and profitability. The MIA aim to help them turn great ideas into great businesses and contribute towards the region’s economic development.
5D Health Protection won first Prize and received £10,000 cash. Judges commended the company’s innovation, research and development capabilities.
Founded in 2015, 5D Health Protection Group was established to address a major global customer and medical need in the area of biofilm testing. Since inception, the company has gone from strength to strength with their development of anti-biofilm technologies, and is now recognised as a global leader in the field.
The Group has become internationally renowned for working with industry, academia, public health bodies and healthcare professionals, to protect people, products and ideas from the detrimental effects of biofilms and microorganisms.

Last night’s runners-up finalists included Blinx, a cloud-based and business intelligence app which unifies and correlates companies’ data on one highly visual platform and Oblige Global, who seek to transform the lives of individuals with disabilities, through innovation and smart technologies. Both finalists won a £2,500 cash prize on the night.
