Cara Bartlett takes on 13 half marathons in 13 weeks for charity

Mitchell Charlesworth’s head of marketing, Cara Bartlett, is running 13 half marathons in 13 weeks for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Cara and her husband Nick are more than two thirds through the 170 mile challenge which started with the Helsby Villages half marathon on 20 January and ends with the Coast half marathon, Conwy on 14 April. The challenge involves running both official half marathons and ‘social’ half marathons which they have organised themselves. Their next race is a social half marathon on Sunday 31 March.

They chose to run for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as Nick’s mum has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and a number of secondary cancers and it is Nick’s way of challenging himself as his mum faces the toughest challenge of her life.

Nick said: “I realised that my mum’s birthday, 13 January, just happens to be the half marathon distance 13.1 miles. So, starting the week after her birthday on 20 January we began to run 13 half marathons in 13 consecutive weeks. With my mum facing this huge challenge over in Spain where she lives, I wanted to challenge myself and give mum something to take her mind off her treatment and support her across the miles whilst raising awareness of this disease, that may help others now and in the future.”

Cara and Nick are aiming to raise over £1000 for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation to improve outcomes for lung cancer and to, ultimately, find a cure.
