Entries for 2019 Merseyside Innovation Awards now open
Entering its 23rd year, the Merseyside Innovation Awards (MIA) are now open for submissions, which will see one applicant win £10,000 in the accolades’ final later in the year.
Renowned for celebrating creativity across Merseyside, the MIA has a long history of contributing to the economic development of multiple businesses and the region as a whole.
An inclusive award, the MIA commends companies both large and small. The Awards see a monthly winner selected between January and May. Three entrants are then selected for the final in July, where the selected winner will receive a £10,000 cash prize. The runners up each receive a cash prize of £2,500.
Last year, 5D Health Protection Group claimed the prize, narrowly beating Blinx, a cloud-based and business intelligence app which unifies and correlates companies’ data on one highly visual platform and Oblige Global, who seek to transform the lives of individuals with disabilities, through innovation and smart technologies.
5D Health Protection Group is a Liverpool-based, multi award-winning contract research organisation and centre of excellence in biofilm and microbiology testing. Judges commended the company’s innovation, research and development capabilities.
2019 will also see the return of the Prestige Award, specifically for larger businesses with a turnover of £1m to £25m. In 2018 this was awarded to Fleetsolve, a renewable power solutions specialist, who the judges said demonstrate an innovative approach to powering some of the country’s most sustainable building projects.

Mitchell Charlesworth has bolstered its corporate finance arm, MC Vanguard, with the promotion of James Curtis to corporate finance manager.
James joined MC Vanguard two years ago, and is primarily based in the Manchester office, although operates on a regional basis; working alongside corporate finance partner Jerry Scriven on a variety of lead advisory and strategic advisory projects.
Before joining MC Vanguard, James worked as a management consultant, with a number of corporate clients, such as Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi Aviation, and Kingdom Hotel Investments, primarily in the Middle East, on a wide range of strategic projects. Prior to this James spent 4 years as part of the British Army’s Defence Technical Officer Engineering Entry Scheme.
The international links continue with MC Vanguard being recently involved in an acquisition search on behalf of Workforce Holdings, a listed South African human capital services company.

Mitchell Charlesworth raises over £8000 for charities in 2018
Employees at Mitchell Charlesworth have had another busy year of fundraising in 2018, raising more than £8000 for local and national charities.
The charities that have received funds include Macmillan, Children in Need and Breast Cancer Now.
The funds were raised by the firm’s partners and staff who took part in various charity days held throughout the year across its offices in Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Widnes. Staff participated in Wear Yellow Day for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Wear A Hat Day for Brain Tumour Research, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan and Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day to name but a few.
Cake bakes, dress down Fridays, competitive games, and donating prizes for staff raffles all helped the team reach the impressive total.
Individual charitable challenges were also taken on with two employees running the world-famous London Marathon. Cara Bartlett, head of marketing, ran in aid of the 1st Great Sutton Scouts Group, raising more than £1400 and Latha Rodgers, director of tax, raised more than £3000 for the mental health charity, MIND.
In addition, the firm also took part in the Trussell Trust’s Summer and Christmas campaigns by donating a large amount of food, toiletries and seasonal items for distribution amongst the North West’s foodbanks.
Mitchell Charlesworth’s CSR programme is thriving, and staff are looking forward to getting involved in a wide range of volunteering and fundraising activities which support national and local charities in 2019.
